MillerKnoll’s Education Team, in collaboration with MTA, partnered with Cal Poly Humboldt to design and furnish two new student housing complexes—Hinarr Hu Moulik East and West—encompassing 314,000 square feet of design-build space. This project represents the University’s largest student housing initiative in its history. The name Hinarr Hu Moulik, meaning “Our House/Home” in the Wiyot language, honors the local Indigenous community and reflects the University’s ongoing commitment to inclusion, sustainability, and connection to place.

The new facilities provide accommodations for 964 residents and feature thoughtfully designed amenities including study areas, computer labs, community and television lounges, conference and meeting rooms, welcoming lobby spaces, and dedicated private offices for staff.

MTA, in partnership with the MillerKnoll team, delivered solutions designed to inspire students to live and learn at Cal Poly Humboldt. The furniture selections balance warmth and durability, crafted with materials that are inviting, easy to maintain, and built to withstand years of use.

MTA’s coordination and Project Management skills shined in this project, given the 5+ hour commute to site. Preliminary finish meetings and site measures were prepared for early in advance, as to not require additional trips. The installation was handled in house, by MTA Installers, demonstrating their preparedness and dedication to the project’s success. The product was ordered and arrived in a timely matter for a smooth installation, all while remaining on budget. Other MTA projects at Cal Poly Humboldt include Jenkins Hall, the Trinity Children's Center and Child Development Lab, and the upcoming Engineering and Technology Building.

“We value the expertise and professionalism of the MTA team and look forward to the next opportunity to work with them.”
