History

Miles Treaster & Associates began in 1958 as Treaster & Green, Sacramento’s finest furniture and decorating studio. Lamar Treaster and Ray Green provided residential interior design to the high society of Sacramento. In 1972, Miles Treaster, son of Lamar Treaster, purchased the company from his father and partner.

In 1978, after five years of renovation and restoration of a dilapidated Victorian at 1800 J Street, Miles Treaster moved the business into what was known as the Wittenbrock home. Built in1873, the Wittenbrock home is recognized by the California State Preservation Society as one of the finest examples of the Italianate style.

In 1994, MTA moved to its current location on Industrial Blvd. in West Sacramento and in 1995 expanded its warehouse operations to 33,000 square feet.

In 2005, MTA opened its second location in the city of Roseville.

Miles Treaster desired to retire and pass the business on to the employees whom had helped build it. Mr. Treaster refused to sell to an outsider and agreed to sell the company to an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) trust in 2006. MTA practices open book management and shares financial information with employees. The ESOP allowed management to build on this foundation and engage employees on even a deeper level. Successful ESOP’s truly engage employees in the growth of the business and in turn share the success of the business.
